Basic Stat Scoring

I know, you're groaning at the thought. When we decided to make this place open for everyone to come and play, we realised we might need something and those of us online groaned as well.

We were thinking we wanted to break away from the DM systems of scores and such. They're big, they're annoying, there's a lot of tinkering and there has to be a way to make it simpler so that we can just get on with the RP.

Convergence runs on a basic 1-4 Based System on all RPG worlds (unless specified otherwise).

  1. You have a basic understanding at best.
  2. You're competent.
  3. You're a veteran.
  4. You're exceptional.

Weapon Skill

Weapon skill covers the martial skill that an individual may possess. It does not take into account the size, speed, strength or agility of the character, simply the degree of their proficiency when it comes to using a blade or their fists or a bow. In order to have at least a general idea of where characters stand in terms of their skills, a rating system exists that runs from 1-4. These ratings are as follows.

  1. Basic: The character has either had no training in combat or is still learning the basics.
  2. Competent: The character is trained, they may be a soldier or simply know how to defend themselves effectively, but essentially the character knows what they are doing and may also have a lot of experience.
  3. Veteran: The character has had a lot of experience in combat and may even be a blademaster, regardless the character is more than able against most other fighters.
  4. Exceptional: The character is incredibly well rounded, has an established history and has consistently shown that they are not only characters of depth, but are capable of exhibiting a skill that is that of a grandmaster and beyond.
Note from Arie:
WS= (breakdown from the DM scores)
1-8 = 1, 9-13 = 2, 14-17 = 3, 18-20 = 4

Characters are most likely to start at either one or two, to start on three would be unlikely unless there were particularly good reasons. Four will never be given straight away, and will be incredibly unlikely for anyone to gain without a significant amount of development.

Speaking of which, how to have your score raised if you wish to. There is no requirement or advancement system, it is entirely impression based. If you wish for your character to have their score raised to reflect where they should be, you need to speak to the gamemaster responsible for your character and talk to them about it. If they feel its fair, they will raise it, if they think it isn't or that its being pushed for a raise simply for the sake of it, they can refuse.

If you want help understanding where you need to go with your character and what they would need to do to merit a higher score, they can give you advice. If you feel your character has been misjudged, you can appeal to the other two gamemasters to look over it.

Lastly, channelers are currently restricted to WS 2 rating, with exception to main characters. While this might change in the future, for now it remains here.

One Power & Talents

One Power covers multiple aspects of the channeler's ability. It is their natural strength, their skill, their experience all rolled into one. Some may be exceptionally strong but not very skillful and might balance out with someone who is not strong but is skillful, or someone who has an exceptional amount of experience and knowledge of weaving might be on par with someone with greater base skill and power. All the scores are used for is to slot people into rough areas, it is up to players (much like with WS) to work out the details. The 1-4 system for OP is as follows.
