The Original Academy of Cairhien

In the Books, after Rand saves Cairhien from the Shaido, he commandeers Barthanes Damodred’s now vacant palace and turns it into a school of study and science.

However, Due to the lack of schools and possible RP opportunities, the Academy has been given a new look.

Al’Cair’Rahienallen

The Capital City of Almoren

After the Age of Legends Al’Cair’Rahienallen, or Hill of the Golden Dawn in The Old Tongue, had become a city renown for her advances in preserving the technology of the previous Age along with advances in varied subjects and innumerable projects. Second only to Collam Daan, destroyed before the Compact, the Queen of Almoren gained a great amount of respect by her peers. Al’Cair’Rahienallen was soon to become the next Collam Daan with the Jenn'Cair University. The University thrived for a great many years until the Shadow descended upon it in the form of Messana's Children who destroyed the entire Capital and her University.

From the ashes a city now known as Cairhien was built.

History

Blueprints of Al’Cair’Rahienallen originally found by Boah Ryanne in 800 NE, his daughter Maegan Ryanne commissioned Ogier of the Tsofu Stedding to build around the origins of Al’Cair’Rahienallen to not only create a School for Noble and Common alike, but also to create a secrete society that supports the academic minds of the world. Along side the help of Reque Damodred (Mechanical/Systems), and two older Cairhien Scientists, Rhys Cathulden and Ouden Rimindar, they developed a secret order underneath the Royal Cairhien Library and utilized the area, inviting fellow Scientist and Scholars to work closer together to achieve a common goal.

Both Cathulden and Rimindar were researching the use of Steam and how to use its power to propel things forward. Several younger scientists and researchers joined within the 20-50 years, Elmry Gaelin (Chemical Expert), and later followed by a woman named Lyonette Cuhlwich (Inventor/Materials) and Gierge Malard (General Scholar) with his wife Reanna (General Scholar). The Malard’s took special interest in the Library itself and saw mostly to its upkeep while the others developed their own studies with limited success.

The Royal Cairhien Library

The Library of Cairhien functions as a whole but is segregated into 3 Section. The School, the Library and the actual Academy of the Rose. Each works seperatly but yet mingles together as a whole to create a positive educational environment.

The Library

- Images Scanned from WoT RPG Adventure Book
(Royal Library Index)

1 - Public reading rooms
2a - Dome Hall (lower)
2b - Dome Hall (higher)
3 - Open Stacks
4 - Restricted Stacks
5 - Private Reading Rooms

Very little of the Library changes from that of what is known from the books. The only major difference is the adjourning school that supports both old and young students.

The Library is the front for the Academy and is open to all that wishes to gain knowledge. It is mainly run under the watch of the Librarian and Second Archivist Aldrin Niges Weyn. An older stouty balding man, He has a wiry sense of humour and a eye for detail. He can name every book in the Library but often is easily lost outside of his world. He has Four people that work under him, Two of which are pupils of the School and future scholars.

Ranks:

  • Librarian
  • Assistant
  • Scholar (Must be educated through a ‘qualified’ School)

Head Librarian - Aldrin Niges Weyn (Also the Second Archivist)

The School

Although the school fervently promotes self learning there are a few classes that take place for the more scholarly students. Most of this takes place via History in a Character, however, the refences to the Classes and Teachers are easier assumed with a list of Who and What.

Curriculum/Subjects:

  • Old Tongue
  • Politics
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • (ETC)

Ranks:

  • Pupil (Student)
  • Dedicated - Major (Graduate)
  • Scholar (Teacher) - The Brillant. Often they only stay to study within the Library but some also take up roles as Teachers/Instructors within the school due to thier knowledge in any given subject.
  • Archivist (Teacher) - Often titled as “Mast(er/ress) _____”

HeadMistress - Trisa Egile Riatin (or “High Archivist”, also Headmistress of the Academy)

Academy of the Rose

The majority of the Academy is hidden within the Ranks of the Library and the School. In fear of the misuse of the knowledge of the different findings, all work within is sworn on the Thorns of the Rose. The Academy consists of Scholars, Scientist, Inventors and many others that are of like mind and willing to change the shape of the world around them.

Initiation

Initiation is that you take up a rose and clench it while you speak your oath of protecting the knowledge within the Academy in the center of all in attendence. This occurs in the Sanctuary of the Rose. Ranks: (Based on Seniority)

Ranks:

  • Neophyte - or Initiate. Must hold the rank of Scholar
  • Disciple
  • Adept - Expert. Formally called “Master” within the Academy.
  • Archivist

(Many of these Titles overlap with that of the Actual School Ranks)

Places of Note

An addition to the broken Towers of the actual Library are a series of shielded rooms for experimental purposes, classrooms, Halls of Construction, and Facility Suites that opened into a small well shielded (overhead illusion and sound shield) open field that allowed not only for smaller out door experiements but also a place where scholars and inventors could relax and enjoy the weather. Most of these rooms are built from the remains of Al’Cair’Rahienallen and still maintain part of its structure and strength.

  • Ventricle of the Order - Split into two chambers “Rose Sanctuary” and “Chamber of Thorns”. There are used for official meeting. Sanctuary is similar to the White Towers “Hall” but also inclues Initiations, however the Chamber is used for discussions of Justice and the death of those that betray the Academy.
  • Halls of Construction - Three large rooms for the actual construction of larger Inventions. (Steam engines, etc)
  • Classrooms - Directly connected to the Library where younger generations are taught Basic and Advanced Studies. Older experienced student often take on instruction roles with the younger and basic classes.
  • Repository - Underground Experimental rooms, shielded not only by their construction but also the One Power from cave-ins and Sound.
  • Facility Suites- Smaller suites similar to dormitories that house those visiting or as a place to sleep for late-night aspirers.
  • The Rose Gardens - An Ogier created Garden that is shielded carefully by illusions. From the outside it appears as blocked off housing to give more credibility to the amount of scholars that go in and out of the Library. It is about the size of a football field.
  • The Rose Manor - A smaller building just off-site of the School that houses Inventors and Scholars alike and their families that have no owned property within Cairhien. This is run by Mistress Cori Sandair. It is also connected to a few shops and another Inn called the Sursa Mahdi run by Mistress Amilia.
